Future of Dining and Catering Services

Project Status: Ongoing

On March 31, 2023, the retail food service and catering agreement with the vendor, Chartwells, in the SMC Campus Center ended. This change represents an exciting time for the UMB community to revamp and innovate food service within the Campus Center.

In January 2024, UMB Student Affairs entered into a new retail food service agreement with local vendor, Yes Chef! to open "Yes Chef! at UMB" on the first floor of the Campus Center. Yes Chef! at UMB opened on Feb. 27, 2024, and is currently operating.

Progress Updates

  • Signed contract with "Yes Chef!" for first-floor vending 
  • Notified UMB community of "Yes Chef! at UMB" opening in spring 2024

  • UMB Student Affairs selected new first-floor dining vendor.
  • Worked with University leadership and campus partners, including Strategic Sourcing and Acquisition Services, to develop and finalize first-floor dining contract.

  • UMB Student Affairs met with local vendors to determine the future of dining on the first floor of the Campus Center.

  • Convened workgroup, composed of students, faculty, and staff. Workgroup met with local vendors and retailers and drafted recommendations for permanent catering and dining options within the Campus Center.
  • Submitted recommendations to UMB Student Affairs leadership.

  • Farmer's Fridge vending machine installed, with 25 percent off grand opening offer
  • Notified UMB community of new vending machines
  • Installed coffee and hot beverage vending machine

  • Chartwells removing equipment, cleaning and returning all food service spaces to Campus Center Operations no later than April 11
  • First floor reopened with three vending machines installed: one with drinks, including iced coffee; one with snacks; and another with hot breakfast and lunch sandwiches
