The University has developed safety and health programs to help provide a safe working environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
These occupational safety programs include asbestos work, confined space entry, electrical safety, indoor air quality, lead exposure in construction, personal protective equipment, and forklift use.
The University also administers the UM Public Access Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) Program, which maintains AEDs in a number of facilities on campus. AEDs, in conjunction with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), are used to restore normal heart rhythm in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.
