The UMB Office of Emergency Management, Office of the Fire Marshal, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and Police Department offer five preparedness trainings to members of the UMB community. After completing each training, you will receive a digital micro-credential showing completion of the training. Those who complete all five courses will earn the Preparedness Pro digital credential. Digital credentials, which can be shared and displayed on a resume, CV, email signature, and/or LinkedIn profile, are offered in partnership with The Learning Institute at UMB.

Emergency Preparedness Training
This is the first step in preparing for an emergency at UMB. Learn what actions to take during an emergency, where to find life-saving emergency equipment, and how to take more emergency training at UMB.
Online Training
The Emergency Preparedness Training is a 15-minute online interactive training – designed to be completed on a smartphone or tablet while in a UMB building.
Group Training
If your UMB-affiliated group would like to receive group Emergency Preparedness Training, please contact emergencymanagement@umaryland.edu.
Self-Paced Printed Training
The Emergency Preparedness Training is available in printed formats as well.
Active Assailant Preparedness Training
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is committed to creating an informed, resilient community. UMB has developed several training opportunities and resources to ensure our students, faculty, staff, and visitors are prepared in the unlikely event of an active assailant. However, in the unlikely event of an active assailant, every second matters, and the response of UMB faculty, staff, and students is crucial in saving lives.

Knowing how to control bleeding from a serious injury is important knowledge for everyone to have. This simple training can be taken in-person or online and can save a life.

Attendees learn about the science of fire, the different types of fires and fire extinguishers, and how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

Individuals may register for in-person training provided by the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Please complete this form to upload documentation of prior or external training completed within the past two years. Once verified, you will receive credit towards completion of the Preparedness Pro digital credential.
