Important Awarding Information
- October 1: FAFSA form for the next academic year becomes available for students to complete.
- March 1: This is UMB's priority award date. You should file your FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1 and before March 1.
- Mid-April: Awarding for the next academic year begins for new students. New students should check the email they listed on the FAFSA on a regular basis! No paper notification will be sent to students. When you receive email notification that you have been awarded, you will be directed to SURFS to view and accept or decline your offer of financial aid. - Early May: Awarding for the next academic year for continuing students begins. Students should monitor their UMB email account for notification that their aid offer is available on SURFS.
- November: Awarding for students admitted to the Spring semester begins. Returning students should check their University email addresses. New students should check the email they listed on the FAFSA on a regular basis! When you receive email notification that you have been awarded, you will be directed to SURFS to view and accept or decline your offer of financial aid. - Early December: Deadline for students to complete any requirements to receive federal aid to cover costs for the fall term.
Students will be awarded by school:
- April: Law, Medical, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Social Work.
- May: Nursing, Medical Technology, Dental Hygiene, Graduate School.
*Initial aid offers are contingent upon receipt of a valid FAFSA for the correct academic year. FAFSA forms that are received that have been selected for verification or have additional flags must be reviewed by a financial aid counselor and all items resolved before determining a student's eligibility. New students must also have an accepted admissions record.
