The Office of the State Fire Marshal is an agency of the Maryland Department of State Police, with responsibility for: statewide fire, arson, and explosive investigations, enforcement of the State Fire Prevention Code by plan review and inspections, coordination of fire prevention efforts, and the collection of fire incident data.

The mission of the OSFM "is the protection of life and property from fire and explosion through the efforts of a diverse, highly trained and dedicated staff in partnership with other public safety agencies and the community. This is accomplished through aggressive criminal investigation of fire and explosive incidents, quality fire protection engineering services, enforcement of the State Fire Prevention Code, data collection and analysis, and public fire safety education."

Baltimore City Fire Departments provides the university and surrounding community with emergency medical services, fire suppression, basic and technical rescue, emergency communications, disaster preparedness planning and response, hazardous materials mitigation, community fire risk reduction, community recruitment, community outreach, public education, and marine fire rescue programs.

The Center for Campus Fire Safety is a non-profit, membership based, organization devoted to reducing the loss of life from fire at our nation's campuses. CCFS serves as the focal point for the efforts of a number of organizations and also as a clearinghouse for information relating to campus fire and life safety. Their mission statement is to be the premier national advocate, information resource, and educational partner for campus fire and life safety professionals and the communities in which they serve.

As an entity of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the mission of the U.S. Fire Administration is to support and strengthen fire and emergency medical services and stakeholders to prepare for, prevent, mitigate and respond to all hazards.

The U.S. Fire Administration develops and delivers fire prevention and safety education programs in partnership with other federal agencies, the fire and emergency response community, the media, and safety interest groups. We also work with the public and private groups to promote and improve fire prevention and life safety through research, testing and evaluation.
