The Emerging Leaders Program is a professional development initiative geared toward examining universal principles of leadership with application to the culture of UMB. The program aims to contextualize participants’ leadership experience through a series of interactive and informative sessions. It is designed to build transferable knowledge and skills.
Learning Outcomes
Through participation in Emerging Leaders, candidates are expected to:
- Cultivate a professional network of cohort peers and UMB leadership.
- Identify professional goals and determine next steps to achieve them.
- Explore components of leadership including leadership styles, emotional intelligence, conflict management, and influence to increase self-awareness and strengthen leadership capacity.

Personal Leadership
- Increase emotional intelligence to improve interpersonal relationships and better navigate complex professional environments.
- Identify professional goals and determine next steps to achieve them.
- Explore and understand essential components of leadership to strengthen leadership capacity.
Interpersonal Leadership
- Network effectively, leveraging a personal brand that reflects your values and identity.
- Integrate best practices for fostering an inclusive work environment.
Organizational Leadership
- Identify strategies for influencing people at all organizational levels to achieve positive outcomes.
- Incorporate UMB core values into leadership practices.
Program Details
Eligibility: Current UMB Employees (Faculty and Staff)
Program Timeline: September 2024 - June 2025
Program Commitments: Approximately 1-3 hours per month. Requirements include attendance at in person seminar sessions and participation in virtual and/or in-person facilitated dialogue sessions.
