Watch a Studio in Progress

The “Studios” program brings together multidisciplinary experts from UMB, JHU, and other academic centers to provide free, structured, project-specific feedback for researchers and has become an integral component of successful clinical translational research across the nation.

Studios are a series of integrated, dynamic, and interactive roundtable discussions that bring relevant research experts from diverse academic disciplines together to focus on a specific research project at a specific stage. The Studios program assists researchers in developing, implementing, and conducting their translational research by providing expertise in areas such as hypothesis generation, study design, biostatistics, implementation, analysis and interpretation, recruitment, and research ethics.

Faculty from JHU, UMBC, and UMCP, please email ICTR-Navigator@umaryland.edu with inquiry about how to access ICTR resources.

  • Studios Program Goals

The overarching goal of the UMB ICTR Studios program is to facilitate the exchange between researchers and expert consultants and, thereby, enhance the quality of research conducted at UMB. Serving the entire UMB campus research community, the UMB ICTR Studios program operates across all UMB-affiliated departments, centers, and institutes and is open to the study of any disease or community health improvement initiative.

  • Studios Format

The UMB ICTR Studios program follows the same format as traditional, clinical, and translational research Studios programs: A researcher completes a brief studio application, the studio “manager” reviews the request, assembles a panel of three to six experts (research faculty from multiple disciplines), and circulates the pre-review materials. Typically, researchers request one of seven studio formats: hypothesis generation, study design, grant review, implementation, analysis and interpretation, manuscript review, or translation. A studio moderator leads each studio session, managing the time (90 minutes) and discussion to optimize the usefulness of the session for the researchers. There is no limit to the number of Studios a researcher can request.

How to Request a Studio Session

For UMB faculty, use your UMID to log in to the  ICTR Resource Request webpage to access the link to the application (developed in REDCap).

For UMBC, UMCP, and JHU faculty, please use this link to request an application https://rs.igs.umaryland.edu/surveys/?s=HDNFLEWNR9HPEYP7

Restrictions. No Exceptions.

  • Applicants must have a FACULTY APPOINTMENT of AT LEAST 51% to apply. Proxies (research staff, students, residents, etc.) are not allowed to complete the application.

  • Applicant must be PI of the project.

  • Please note that Studios are customized to the research area of interest. Once your request is received, it may take 8-12 weeks to coordinate the schedules of the faculty who will be contributing to the Studio discussion. Please plan for this time.

  • If the request is time sensitive, please consider individual consultations with the individual cores of services listed in on the  Investigator Resources page to help with sections of the grants, such as the statistical section, dissemination & implementation, community engagement, etc.  Consults with the individual core service providers can typically occur within a week or so.

For questions, please email ICTR-Navigator@umaryland.edu.
