Fall 2012 Enrollment Report

Table 1a‌	Headcount History by School, 2008-2012 Total Fall 2012 headcount enrollment is 6,368, a decrease of less than 1% from Fall 2011. Pharmacy, the Graduate School, and Medicine have the largest percent of growth in enrollment while Law, Social Work, and Dentistry have a decline in enrollment.
Table 1b‌	FTES History by School, 2008-2012 Total Fall 2012 FTES enrollment is 6,316, an increase of 1% from Fall 2011. Pharmacy and Law experienced the largest percent increase and decline in FTES, respectively.
Table 2 ‌	Headcount Change by Degree The decline in enrollment for Fall 2012 is largely attributable to decreases in the Social Work MSW (32 students), Law Evening JD (26), Law Day JD (22), Dental Hygiene BS (11), and Nursing MS (10) programs. Enrollment in the Pharmaceutical Sciences MS went from 0 students in 2011 to 30 in 2012, which helped offset decreases in enrollment for other programs. Programs with increases in enrollment greater than ten include the Physical Therapy DPT (19), Medicine MD (12), Medicine PhD (10), and Nursing BS (10). The Physical Therapy DScPT program, which had one student enrolled in Fall 2011, had 0 students enrolled in Fall 2012 and is no longer admitting new students.
Table 3‌	Projected vs. Actual Headcount by Degree Fall 2012 enrollment total is 3% greater than projected. While many programs are close to the projections, some have significant deviations. The Nursing MS, Law Day JD, Pharmacy MS, Medicine PhD, Medicine MD, Nursing Practice DNP, and Physical Therapy DPT programs enrolled the most number of students over their projected enrollments. Dental Hygiene BS and Social Work MSW have the largest disparity among the programs that failed to reach their projected enrollment.
Table 4‌	FTES Change by Degree Full-Time Equivalent Student (FTES) enrollment showed an small increase in contrast to the small decrease in headcount enrollment. The Grand Total FTES for all programs increased by 65, a 1% change from 2011 Fall FTES. Of note, the Social Work MSW program, which had a total decrease in headcount of 32 students, showed an increase in FTES of one student.
Table 5‌	Headcount by Gender Women comprise 70% of the total enrollment, dominating all programs except for Law Evening JD, Dental PhD, and the Clinical Research Certificate program where men account for 52%, 86% and 100% of enrollment, respectively. The Pharmacy MS and Dental DDS programs are split equally.
Table 6‌	Headcount by Attendance Status Full-time students account for 80% of headcount enrollment for Fall 2012. Programs that have more than 50 percent part-time students include the Dental MS, Public Health MPH, Pharmacy MS, Clinical Research Certificate, and Nursing MS, PhD, DNP and Certificate programs.
Table 7a‌	Headcount by Race/Ethnicity Race and ethnicity categories are consistent with Federal Reporting standards. Total Minority is the sum of the American Indian, Asian, Black, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Multi-Racial categories. Table 7b provides percent of headcount by race/ethnicity.

Table 8‌	Headcount by Residency Maryland residents account for 74% of the total enrollment for Fall 2012. The undergraduate programs have the highest percent with 93% in-state residents. The Research & Scholarship Doctorate programs have the lowest at 36%.
Table 9‌	Headcount by Degree Status Overall, 97% of students are seeking degrees or certificates. Most non-degree students are concentrated within the Master’s programs, mainly Nursing and Medicine.
Table 10‌	Headcount by Class and Type Of the “year assigned” programs, the percentages among classes appear to be more different within the Bachelor’s degree programs than for the other degree levels. Approximately 20% of new Nursing BSN students and 21% of new Social Work MSW students entered their respective program in Second Year standing. There are also 34 new first year PharmD students enrolled at the Universities at Shady Grove.
Table 11a‌	Graduate School Enrollment by Program The Graduate School enrolls students in 9 Master’s and 22 Research & Scholarship Doctorate programs. Enrollment in Non-Degree and Research & Scholarship Doctoral degree programs grew by 10 and 22 students, respectively, from Fall 2011 to Fall 2012. Enrollment in Master’s degree programs decreased by 2 students. The gender and race of Graduate School students are depicted in Table 11b and Table 11c, respectively.

Table 13‌	Enrollment by Region and Maryland County. Nearly 72% of students resided in Maryland at the time of application. Most resided in the Baltimore Region, followed by the Washington Region. Every Maryland County is represented. For a pictorial view, see Maryland Counties Fall 2012.
Table 14‌	Enrollment by State The University enrolled students from every state except Idaho, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Outside of Maryland, the top five states represented are Pennsylvania, Virginia, California, New York, and Florida.
Table 15‌	International Student Enrollment by Degree International students comprise 4% of overall enrollment. The programs that enroll the most International students are Medicine PhD, Pharmacy PhD, and Pharmacy PharmD. Dental PhD is the program with the highest percentage of International students.
