Safe Walk

Safe Walk is a public safety service available on campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. See the boundaries on the Safe Walk/Safe Ride Map. Please reach out at 410-706-6882 for more information.

Note: For the safety of our community, police and security officers must be able to quickly use their radios in the event of an emergency. For this reason, our officers are not able to assist with carrying bags or packages, pushing strollers, or performing other physical activities during a Safe Walk. We appreciate your understanding.

Safe Ride

Safe Ride is a public safety service (car or van) available from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., 365 days a year. See boundaries on the Safe Walk/Safe Ride Map. Safe Ride is for UMB/UMMC students and employees only. All riders must be age 18+ and are required to have a UMB ID or UMMC ID. 

How to request a Safe Ride with the mobile UMB app:

1. Download Mobile UMB in the Apple app store or on Google Play.
2. Open Mobile UMB and tap Safe Ride.
3. Select University of Maryland – Baltimore
4. Log in using your UMB ID and password. Confirm your login using UMB DUO authentication.
5. Enter your first name, last name, and mobile phone number. Click Submit.
6. Check the box to agree to the privacy policy.
7. Select University of Maryland – Baltimore
8. Allow the app to access your location. This is how our drivers know where to pick you up!
9. At the top of the screen, select the Custom Pickup text box. Enter your pickup location that is within the Safe Ride boundary.
   You can also move the map on the screen until the pin with the “A” in the blue circle is at your pickup location.
10. Once you've entered your pickup location, click Select Pickup. This is the location where our driver will pick you up. 
11. At the top of the screen, click the Custom Drop-off text box. Enter your drop-off location that is within the Safe Ride boundary.
    You can also move the map on the screen until the pin with the “B” in the blue circle is at your drop-off location.
12. Once you've entered your drop-off location, click Select Drop-off. This is the location where our driver will drop you off. 
13. Select the number of passengers who will need a Safe Ride. Click Next.
    • Please note: wheelchair access and bicycle pickup is not available at this time.
14. Check that the details are correct, then click Confirm Ride.
    • Once you confirm your ride, the system will say “pending” while your ride is sent to the driver for confirmation. Please be patient — others may be waiting ahead of you, especially when there is inclement weather and during class changes. Once the driver confirms your ride, you will receive your scheduled pickup time.
15. Please be ready when your Safe Ride driver arrives to prevent delays for other riders.
