Councils and Initiatives

The Council for the Arts & Culture enhances the quality of life on campus and in the larger Baltimore community by promoting the use of the University’s public spaces for the visual and performing arts and providing opportunities for the UMB community to experience the arts at partner institutions.

The Future of Work Task Force committees are charged with developing short- and long-term recommendations to UMB leadership related to work flexibility, employee value proposition (why people want to work here and remain here), and employee well-being.

The focus of the program is to develop, support, and expand educational curriculum and service-learning and community experiential learning, build community-engaged faculty scholarship and research, and support professional development related to community engagement for faculty, staff, and students.

LEAPS  is a new initiative supporting the educational priorities outlined by University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, and seeking to recognize and advance the achievements of educators in each UMB school. By developing faculty members’ skills and knowledge as educational thought leaders and scholars, UMB and its schools will strengthen existing educational programs, develop novel educational methods, and advance educational innovations and scholarship.

Every 10 years, UMB undergoes a reaffirmation of its accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. This comprehensive evaluation strengthens the University and helps sustain the quality and integrity of the education UMB provides.

MPowering the State is a structured alliance between UMB and the University of Maryland, College Park. The partnership catalyzes collaborative academic, research, and outreach programs to advance Maryland’s national leadership in education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The President’s Symposium and White Paper Project is an interprofessional initiative that engages faculty, staff, and students from every UMB school in a yearlong conversation on a topic of importance to the University community.

The 2022‒2026 Strategic Plan outlines the University’s five-year goals and tactics. UMB’s individual schools and units will make the Strategic Plan “come alive” by developing measurable goals that align with the strategic objectives and put UMB on a trajectory to realize the strategic outcomes in the plan.

UMBrella (UMB Roundtable on Empowerment in Leadership and Leveraging Aspirations) works to support the success of women at UMB, advancing them into leadership roles and championing women at all levels of the organization.
