Fall '24 Campus Cleanup

The UMB Staff Senate, Office of Sustainability, and Environmental Services partnered to host a trash cleanup for Campus Sustainability Month in October 2024. A team of more than 50 volunteers picked up more than 150 pounds of trash.

This Spring '23 event explored UMB's core values of Well-Being and Sustainability through the lens of kindness.

Started in 1994, the Staff Senate serves as an advisor and a channel of communication to the UMB president and the president's cabinet in the areas of policy and procedures, which affect the quality of staff members' work-life and their level of contribution to the strategic goals of the University. 

  • Who We Are

    The Staff Senate consists of over 20 exempt staff members who represent all the schools and central administration.

  • What We Do

    We advocate on behalf of UMB staff with regard to University policies and procedures that affect eligible employees; work environment and staff morale; and issues impacting wages, benefits, and working conditions. We also lead many Universitywide community outreach activities.

Shared Governance Statement

Shared governance is a priority at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). We believe in a shared responsibility among staff, faculty, administration, and students to promote a collaborative process whereby UMB and the faculty, staff, and students have regular dialogue on important issues of concern to the parties. The common shared objective is to enhance the goals of the institution.
